Flash Player 8.5 Public Beta

Time to play around with this. It'll be interesting to see if any legacy work is affected.

In case you're wondering, you can check your current version of the flash plug-in right here.

Gmail Notifier 1.8.2 for Mac is Broke

Update 04.01.2006: It magically started working again!

I know it's not just me, everyone at lunch today chimed in on how their Gmail Notifier just stopped working.

My workaround? Use the fantastic Adium as your chat client and log into Google Talk with your Gmail account.

Adium is awesome!

Next, enable "new email notification" under the Events tab and Adium will let you know when new mail arrives. Easy cheesy.

Adium is awesome!

Sure I hope Gmail fixes this, but if it takes them a while it's fine with me.

P.S. If you have Growl installed, you can opt for a prettier notification, but it's not required.

...Just found this thread on Google Groups via Digg confirming more outages. I'm running 10.4.5 on 3 machines and notifier doesn't work on any of them.

Google Finance’s Flash Chart

GOOG

When you run Google's chart.swf locally, it defaults to Google. Isn't that adorable?

Actually, it's a quite nice use of Macromedia's Flash / Javascript Integration Kit. Great UI and not a ton of overhead. The chart.swf is 32K and the page weight for AAPL is about 96k, nearly half of that (44k) being the data that populates the chart.

I wonder how far away some financial mash-ups are?

Broken Social Scene on Conan

Broken Social Scene on Late Night with Conan O'Brien

Sure, they were on over a month ago, but I found a good capture of a great performance. How can you wrong with six guitarists and one Feist?

Folder containing it here and thread about where else to find it here.

Popurls: Your New Internets Addiction

Popurls.com is my new internets addiction!

Popurls.com is a newish, ajaxian link aggregator, featuring feeds from Digg, Del.icio.us, Furl, Reddit, Tailrank, Slashdot, Google News, Newsvine and Topix. Add to that interesting images pulled from Flickr, top views from YouTube, and what do you get? I'm guessing loyal legions of addicted viewers.

It's the best quick glance out there.

Worst Thing About Watching the NCAA Final Four

Please make them stop singing the Gilligan's Island theme.

Aside from Faye beating me in the brackets, this Applebee's commercial sung to the tune of Gilligan's Island is driving me insane.

I can't hit the mute button fast enough.

25 For $25 - Brasa

I skipped my own advice and decided to head down to Brasa for dinner Monday night. It's one of those places we've been meaning to check out for some time. If you've never been before, Brasa is very corporate looking, but warm. Going on a Monday was great, it never got packed or noisy and we got a table right away.

Brasa is offering up a wide selection on their 25 Menu and I was floored at the bargain we were getting. My entree normally ran you $27 so we splurged on wine, choosing a bottle of the 2003 Chateau Gaillard Saumur (I need a picture), which our waitress chilled slightly before pouring. Wonderfully dry with a very long finish. Delicious.

The service was great too, warm and knowledgeable... and did I mention the comfy circular booths? We melted right into them.

We started with the mussels and flat bread with leeks and goat cheese, both terribly good. The portion of mussels was small compared to other places, I counted eight, but the broth more than made up for it. For entrees we had Beef Tenderloin and Halibut, each thoughtfully prepared, perfectly cooked, and outstanding. Desert was super-tasty pistachio crusted cheesecake and an ok cheese plate. Two glasses of Vin Santo polished it all off.

We had a great meal and a great time. Executive Chef Tamara Murphy is doing a bang up job at Brasa, if you've ever wanted to check it out, now is the time. Shortlist Brasa and get in there!
